Your notes
Ground Control looks things up in your own notes before your AI writes a script, and saves newly verified facts back. The more you use it, the fewer mistakes your AI makes on your projects.
Any folder of markdown files works. There is no format to learn: file names and headings become titles, and the text under them is what your AI reads.
Two folders
Section titled “Two folders”Ground Control reads two places, and tells your AI which one each answer came from.
| Where | When it is read | |
|---|---|---|
| Your general notes | The folder set in the panel, or by setup | Always |
| The project’s notes | A folder named knowledge inside the project your AI session is open in | When that folder exists |
A new fact is saved to the nearest folder: the project’s knowledge folder when there is one, otherwise your general notes.
Your general notes folder
Section titled “Your general notes folder”Setup creates an empty folder and points Ground Control at it:
| Folder | |
|---|---|
| Windows | %APPDATA%\ground-control\knowledge\ |
| macOS | ~/Library/Application Support/ground-control/knowledge/ |
To use a folder you already have, open the Menu at the bottom right of the panel, choose Notes folder, and click Choose folder. The change applies to your next session. Use default points it back at the folder setup created.
From a terminal, the same thing is:
npx -y https://get.jakeinmotion.com/ground-control/ground-control-0.2.0.tgz setup --knowledge "C:\path\to\your\notes"Setup never overwrites a folder you have already set.
A project’s notes
Section titled “A project’s notes”Put a folder named knowledge in a project and start your AI session in that project. Ground Control reads it alongside your general notes, and saves facts it verifies there, so what you learn on a project stays with the project.
When there is no answer
Section titled “When there is no answer”If your notes have nothing on a question, Ground Control says so plainly and suggests the next step: verify it live in After Effects, then write the fact down. Answers that come from your notes are labeled as yours, never presented as a measured fact.
