Panel Buttons

The panel contains nine buttons. Hover over any button in After Effects to see its tooltip.

Apply Type Jazz

Adds Type Jazz to the selected text layers. If the first selected text layer already has Type Jazz, the button removes Type Jazz from the selection instead.

Removing Type Jazz also removes its variable-font companion effect.

Copy and paste

Click to copy the Type Jazz animation from the selected layer. Alt/Option-click the same button to paste the copied animation onto the selected text layers.

In animation type

Sets the Animation In motion to Oscillate, Bounce, or Linear.

Use this button after applying a preset, too. See Finish with the animation type button.

Out animation type

Sets the Animation Out motion to Oscillate, Bounce, or Linear.

In direction

Sets the Animation In direction to Left to Right, Right to Left, Center Out, or Outward In. This is the direction the animation travels through the text, not the direction the characters move.

Out direction

Sets the Animation Out direction to Left to Right, Right to Left, Center Out, or Outward In.

Based On

Chooses whether the animation moves through Characters, Words, or Lines.

Alt/Option-click Characters to animate by characters excluding spaces, so a space is not a step in the animation.

Toggle per-character 3D

Enables or disables Per-Character 3D on the selected Type Jazz layers. When it is disabled, Z Rotation controls normal 2D rotation. Enable it to use X, Y, and Z rotation independently.

Variable font axes

Opens a list of the axes supported by the selected layers’ variable fonts. Check the axes you want Type Jazz to animate. Alt/Option-click the button to remove all variable font axes from the selected layers.

On a text layer without Type Jazz, this button applies Type Jazz first rather than asking you to. Canceling the axis list leaves the layer with Type Jazz applied, exactly as the Apply button would have.
