Extension Buttons
An extension button opens an installed extension: anything After Effects lists under Window > Extensions, including a second Code Runner panel. If the panel is already open, the button brings it to the front.
Create one
Section titled “Create one”- Click + > Add button and set the type to Extension.
- Pick the extension from the list. Search matches the name you see in the Window menu and the extension’s id, which is shown under each name so two panels from the same tool are easy to tell apart.
The list is what After Effects has registered on this machine. Hidden helper windows and dialogs are left out.
Sharing
Section titled “Sharing”A shared extension button carries the extension’s name and id, not the extension itself. On a machine where it is not installed, clicking the button says so instead of doing nothing. Install the extension, restart After Effects, and the button works.
Language
Section titled “Language”The button opens the extension by its id, never by its menu name, so it works the same on any language of After Effects.
