Installation

Get Code Runner

1. Get Code Runner free at jakeinmotion.com/code-runner.
2. After redeeming, download the .zxp from your library at jakeinmotion.com/library.

Install the extension

1. Install the .zxp with a ZXP installer — see Installing ZXP Extensions.
2. Restart After Effects.
3. Open Window > Extensions > Code Runner.

Code Runner requires After Effects 2021 or newer, on Windows or macOS.

The four panels

Window > Extensions lists four of them: Code Runner, Code Runner 2, Code Runner 3 and Code Runner 4. They are copies of the same panel sharing one library, so a different collection can sit in a different part of your workspace. See Multiple Panels.

Updating from 2.0.0? Restart After Effects once after installing. Until you do, only Code Runner itself is listed.

Allow scripts to write files

Script buttons need one After Effects preference turned on:

1. Open Preferences > Scripting & Expressions.
2. Check Allow Scripts to Write Files and Access Network.
3. Restart After Effects.

If it is off, Code Runner shows a card telling you — everything except running script buttons still works.

Coming from Code Runner 1

Nothing extra to do. On first launch, Code Runner automatically imports your Code Runner 1 library of buttons. See Upgrading from Code Runner 1.
